Congratulations on your new job! Where will you be working?

I'll be working as a full stack developer at Napptilus. I'm pretty excited to get started!

What were you doing before signing up for our course?

Before signing up to the Java Web Development course at Ubiqum I was working in customer service. I’d been studying for a number of years, had two degrees and a masters in Criminology, yet I wasn’t doing anything related to what I had studied.

Why did it seem like the right moment in your life to sign up for the course?

I wanted to make a change because I wasn’t working in
anything I really wanted to do; I was tired of my situation and needed to re-organise my life. I’d heard about the concept of bootcamps and Ubiqum seemed like the right choice.

What was your main concern before starting?

I was definitely sure about starting the course, but I was a little scared because it’s a very serious commitment and a big investment. However, after working intensely for one week at Ubiqum, which is like being in another world all together, I realised quickly that it was all worth it. You learn so much in such a short space of time.

Why did Ubiqum stand out as the best choice?

I wanted to find a course that was intensive but not too intensive. As a beginner, I didn’t want to do a short course of nine weeks because if I was ill for two days I would be missing out on a lot of work. Five months felt like a good amount of time as I’d have time to process the material and really master it before going out in this new sector.

I also wanted to find a course that focused on practical over theory-based learning and Ubiqum’s Learn by Doing approach seemed like the perfect option. Thankfully, Ubiqum didn’t have a rigorous screening process like other bootcamps.

Do you think our Learn by Doing methodology has been effective?

It took a little time to adjust to the Learn by Doing methodology - after all, I’d spent my whole life learning through the traditional education model - but once I got used to it I found it very effective. I think it’s definitely a better way to learn; it’s more efficient as instead of spending hours on theory, you jump straight into the practical stuff.

How helpful did you find the Career Placement service?

I found them very helpful, in less than a month, I had 10-12 interviews lined up, more than I’ve had in my entire life! In my particular case, they helped me build a LinkedIn profile (which I never had) and this turned out to be very beneficial.

Why would you recommend Ubiqum?

I would 100% recommend Ubiqum, especially the front-end and developing side of the course. What’s great about learning with Ubiqum’s methodology is that it changes the way you approach a problem or tackle learning a new subject matter, skill or programming language. The mental models are universal and very helpful for problem solving.
