What were you doing before signing up for our course?

I studied business administration and hospitality and I was working in events when I decided that I wanted to get into programming. If you work in hospitality, you have to work in hotels and there really isn’t much room for professional development. In web development, you have thousands of doors opened to you; you can work as a freelancer, for a consultancy or you can even launch your own startup. The number of possibilities are endless and highly diverse - you can never get bored as a Programmer. Even before finishing the course I had companies calling me offering me a job.

What was your main concern before starting?

There’s always the risk that you won’t be good enough but I was adamant that this was what I wanted to do. And I thought, even if it’s not for me, this kind of technical knowledge can always be applied in other areas.

Why did Ubiqum stand out as the best choice?

In the other bootcamps I was looking at, they asked for a certain level of experience and you had to do entry exams, so in my case, this wasn’t an option as I had very little experience.
Ubiqum makes a commitment to you from day one to help you get a job and that means a lot; not only does it show that they believe in you and your abilities, it also shows that they believe in the quality of their courses - this is very impactful.

Do you think our Learn by Doing methodology has been effective?

In the beginning, I loved it and learning in this way came easily to me. However, when we got to studying JavaScript I realised I didn’t naturally have this kind of logical mental model and I had to practise a lot. It was a challenge, but if we didn’t set ourselves challenges, life would be pretty boring. At university, I did a little bit on HTML. However, at Ubiqum, with everything being so accelerated, all that I had learned and more, we covered in one day! Luckily, as the course is so practical, it’s easy to absorb everything.

Why would you recommend Ubiqum?

For everything. The atmosphere created at Ubiqum is like being part of a family. The mentors really put in their all and in the end you think of them as your friends. It’s a place that you really want to come to everyday. It might seem like an impossible task to learn how to code and become a Developer, but look, I’ve done it, just like everyone else on my course! At Ubiqum, they really believe in you and that’s very motivating.
