Congratulations on your new job! Where will you be working?

Thanks, it’s all happened pretty quickly. General Software came to the academy last week and the same day they called me and a few other students to say that we’d got the job. We haven’t even finished the course yet and we’ve already been hired. In fact, I start next Monday so I won’t be able to finish the very end of the course, though my objective was to get a job and this has been achieved!

What were you doing before signing up for our course?

I was doing something that has no relation to programming, I was working on oil rigs at sea. Of course, I got tired of always being away from home and decided that I needed to make a change. I spoke to a friend who told me that there were lots of opportunities in programming and he was right.

What was your main concern before starting?

I knew that I liked programming and technology in general, but I didn’t know what to do exactly. Then I saw that at Ubiqum Code Academy they trained you to become a Full-Stack Developer and that this type of technological profile was in very high demand on the market.

Why did Ubiqum stand out as the best choice?

I looked at one other, which was only three months and only front-end, but as I was making such a big career change, I wanted to gain the knowledge of a Full-Stack Developer. I thought, I’m sure there are opportunities with front-end training, but there are bound to be many more if you study full-stack.

Do you think our "Learn by Doing" methodology has been effective?

It can be frustrating at times because you’re in a world that you don’t know and you have a lot to learn, but in the end things come together and you manage to work everything out. The mentors help a lot and without them it would be impossible. Being part of a group also helps as there are people who know more than others and everyone is willing to share their knowledge.

Why would you recommend Ubiqum?

I’d recommend this course to anyone who finds themselves in a situation where they want to change careers - programming is a great alternative! It wasn’t necessarily easy for me to realise that everything I’d done and everything I’d studied up until now wouldn’t be of use, but I’m really happy to have completed this course and found a job as a Developer. I’m proof that it’s never too late.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Thank you Ubiqum, and thank you to the Career Counsellors on the Job Placement team. They make the whole process of looking for a job much easier as they direct opportunities your way and put you in contact with many different companies. Their role is almost as important as the course in achieving the objective of finding a job.
