What were you doing before singing up to the course?

I was an EFL English teacher in Russia but I was starting to find it slightly repetitive and I wasn’t getting this feeling of accomplishment that I wanted.

Why did Ubiqum Code Academy stand out as the best choice when selecting a coding bootcamp?

I was looking at several coding bootcamps and I chose Ubiqum because here you study Java, the most popular programming language. Also, the course is much longer than other bootcamps, which makes it more robust and comprehensive. Though the price was a little higher than some, for me that made it more credible. The length of the course was also what appealed to me as if it was any shorter than 5 months I wouldn’t have been satisfied.

Do you think the "learn by doing" methodology has been effective?

The best thing was that it felt like work at Ubiqum; they set up tasks and deadlines and you have to work fairly autonomously, just like I’m doing now in my job. When I started my job, I was in no way surprised or overwhelmed and I think my colleagues noticed that.

What would you say to a complete beginner? Or to someone who’s thinking about changing careers?

Just start doing. It’s important to realise from the beginning if you really like coding or not so I’d recommend trying all that you can before signing up to a course.

How did you find the process of finding a job?

It took me a little longer to find a job and I think this wasn’t helped by the fact that I didn’t speak a word of Spanish. But then I started headhunting IT companies in Barcelona and the response rate was really high.

I’ve been working in a company called Blackbird since November and I really like it. We use a completely different coding language but that wasn’t a problem as at Ubiqum you learn everything from scratch and very practically so you’re therefore very accustomed to carrying on learning in this way.

Why would you recommend Ubiqum?

The atmosphere is really nice, but I’d mainly recommend it for the fact that you feel like you’re at work.
